Migrating Spaces exhibition focuses on common elements of domestic German architecture integrated into the homes of former guest workers upon their “definitive return” to Turkey.
This exhibition looks at the built environment to explore how cultural experiences can contribute to complex identities. The buildings in question are the homes built by former Turkish guest workers upon their ‘definitive return’ to Turkey. After documenting 132 cases of houses and apartments built or renovated by migrants returning to Turkey, the curator Stefanie Bürkle and her team catalogued the common elements of domestic architecture in Germany that are integrated into these buildings.
